Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) is a public health charity set up by the Royal College of Physicians to end the harm caused by tobacco.

After 50 years' successful campaigning this goal is within our grasp, but only if the inequalities in smoking across society are addressed.

Stop smoking support helps nearly 2,000 babies avoid premature birth or low birthweight as maternal smoking reaches record low

New analysis by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) estimates that since 2020, accelerated declines in maternal smoking have helped prevent nearly 2,000 babies from being born preterm or with low birthweight, as well as 70 cases of stillbirth, neonatal death and sudden infant death.
