This smokefree generation communications toolkit has been produced by ASH and the SFAC in partnership with Fresh and Balance and the Centre for Excellence.
On 1st January 2027 the UK will become only the second country in the world to introduce a ‘smokefree generation’ by continuously raising the age of sale for tobacco. This communications toolkit contains resources to help you maximise the opportunity that this presents for the benefit of public health and play your part to ensure it is a success.
The toolkit has been designed for anyone who has a role to play in implementing the smokefree generation policy in England, including public health and comms teams in local authorities, the NHS, regional tobacco control programmes, tobacco control leads and Trading Standards teams.
The aim of this toolkit is to help guide partners through public and partner engagement and communications. The toolkit includes core messages that your organisation can use to communicate this policy, and all the materials and resources needed to do so. An updated toolkit will become available as we move closer to the implementation date.
The SFAC communications toolkit signposts to the Department of Health and Social Care's (DHSC) toolkit for their national public awareness campaign. Please note that the assets in the DHSC toolkit are under a strict embargo until 16th November. The template social media posts in the SFAC toolkit can be shared at any point.
