The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Smoking and Health has published a number of inquiries and reports.

APPG on Smoking and Health Manifesto for a Smokefree Future - Make Smoking History: A cross Government strategy to improve the nation’s health, wealth and productivity – November 2023

On 9th November 2023 the APPG published its manifesto for a Smokefree Future, calling on the Government to make Big Tobacco pay to deliver a Smokefree future. The report includes: new figures showing the cost of smoking to public finances in England; modelling demonstrating that the APPG’s recommendations could save £3.1 bn for the public purse; and analysis showing that a ‘polluter pays’ levy on tobacco manufacturers could raise up to £700 million per year.

Delivering a Smokefree 2030: The All Party Parliamentary Group on Smoking and Health recommendations for the Tobacco Control Plan 2021 – June 2021

On 9th June 2021 the APPG published their recommendations for the next Tobacco Control Plan and the measures needed to secure the Government’s ambition of a Smokefree country by 2030. The report calls for further regulations, increased funding levied from the tobacco industry on a polluter pays principle and investment in the communities where smoking has the biggest impact.

Delivering the vision of a ‘Smokefree Generation’: The APPG on Smoking and Health’s response to ‘Prevention is better than cure’ – February 2019

This report from the APPG on Smoking and Health sets out the national policies required to achieve the Government’s ambition of a ‘Smokefree Generation’ set out in the 2017 Tobacco Control Plan for England. It was published in response to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care’s policy paper ‘Prevention is better than cure’ and ahead of the Department for Health and Social Care’s Green Paper on Prevention.

Burning Injustice: Reducing tobacco-driven harm and inequality, Recommendations to the government, local authorities and the NHS – January 2017

Following an evidence session on Tuesday 10th January 2017, the All Party Parliamentary Group on Smoking and Health published the report Burning Injustice – reducing tobacco driven harm and inequality. The report provides recommendations to the government, local authorities and the NHS for effective action to further reduce smoking prevalence at a time of austerity.
