About the Smokefree Councillor Network

A cross-party group of elected members committed to achieving comprehensive local government action on tobacco

The Smokefree Councillor Network is a cross-party group of elected members working together to deliver strong local action on tobacco and eliminate the harm it causes in local communities.

The Network’s aims are aligned with the Local Government Declaration on Tobacco Control, committing councillors and local authorities to take meaningful action to address the harms caused by smoking.

Network members receive semi-regular updates on tobacco control activity and public health campaigns, including:

  • Updates on key developments in tobacco control
  • Invitations to sign open letters and support campaigning activity
  • Briefings and resources to support local tobacco control work
