ASH provides the secretariat for the APPG on Smoking and Health. ASH is an independent public health charity which does not accept commercial funding.
The agreed purpose of the APPG is: “To monitor and discuss the health and social effects of smoking; to review potential changes in existing legislation to reduce levels of smoking; to assess the latest medical techniques to assist in smoking cessation; and to act as a resource for the group’s members on all issues relating to smoking and public health.”

Statement of independence
The APPG on Smoking and Health is independent of any commercial interests. In addition, the APPG adheres to Article 5.3 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and its guidelines which require policymakers to protect public health policy from the commercial and other vested interests of the tobacco industry.
