Cost of smoking to social care
ASH commissioned research has, for the first time, estimated the cost of smoking to the social care system.
The research shows that smoking not only contributes to the social care bill but also has a significant impact on the well-being of smokers who need care on average nine years earlier than non-smokers. Costs are also estimated for each local authority based on the size of their over 50’s smoking population.
